About Shay Tarlton

People always ask me: “Have you always been into art?”

I can remember back to my grade school days when my friends and I would constantly draw Dragon Ball Z characters during our down time. I would always try and add more hair to their already luscious locks.

That continued through middle and high school. All the way to senior year where my wonderful art teacher pushed me towards pursuing art with more serious intentions. Thanks to her I decided to complete my BFA in Watercolor Painting at The American Academy of Art in Chicago, IL.

During my academic career I was getting tattooed on a pretty consistent basis. Completely falling in love with the craft and imagery. So much so, that I couldn’t help but pursue it with everything I had.

My background in fine art has heavily influenced the way i approach tattooing. I enjoy taking an idea and turning it into a custom piece that works with the body while still feeling like a piece of artwork.

I’m especially drawn to anime, illustrative and stipple, but I always enjoy working with clients who have an idea they want to make their own. Every tattoo is a collaboration and my goal is to create something that you’ll be excited to wear forever!
